This blog looks at architecture and modeling options available for enterprises to make the best use of the analytic capabilities that SAP BusinessObjects Cloud (BOC) has to offer.
SAP’s BusinessObjects cloud platform is built on the HANA Cloud Platform. This provides you with all the features available with SAP HANA and it is topped off with an intuitive analytics platform that has been built from the ground up.
This merges your analytic, planning, predictive and data integration all into one single platform. This allows you to enable your users to fully embrace Business Intelligence the way it was meant to be without having to sidestep across multiple systems and screens to get what they wanted.
For instance, if you needed simple planning applications on top of your sales data, it would be tough to get it done when you have separate systems to plan and view the data. This issue becomes acute when you have a need to do simple sales planning without having to do disaggregations.
Also, because the platform is on the cloud, it becomes easy to access the same saving time lost in VPN configurations, etc. The Business Objects cloud platform can also be configured to integrate with your existing security so that the data remains confidential.
The Business Objects cloud portfolio consists of 3 separate tiers, namely :
- Core capabilities : These deal with the basic building blocks of the HANA cloud platform and offer you data connectivity , collaboration , security and visualization all powered by HANA along with a rich set of APIs which help you integrate the same as apps into your existing BI landscape.
- Analytic Capabilities : These are focused towards analytics , dealing with data visualization , Basic Planning and Predictive capabilities which empower your users with the information they need real-time or staged. Also the entire analytics experience has been redesigned with the user in mind which leads to a fluid user experience with little training required.
- Applications : All the analytic applications can be stitched together into a boardroom which gives you multiple screen , multiple metric access to your enterprise metrics. This allows for a 30,000 feet view of the enterprise across multiple areas with the capability to drill down to the lowest level.
SAP Boardroom Solution for Executives:
This allows you the option of having all your KPIs in one place with a boardroom like look and feel . The boardroom solution supports multiple screens and you can do a dashboard that spans multiple screens and multiple KPIs. You can have drilldowns for the KPIs and drill down to the lowest level of data available right there.
Lets look at how SAP BusinessObjects Cloud connects to your data sources and a couple of ways to get there.
Business Objects connectivity to data sources
Since BOC is built on the SAP cloud Platform , it offers real time connectivity to your SAP HANA systems. You can run the queries on the source system directly without having to duplicate the data again on the SAP BusinessObjects Cloud system. A high level overview of the architecture is shown below.
If your data volumes are high then you can look at provisioning an instance of SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) to host your data and load data from your on-premise systems to SCP . Business Objects cloud will then access SCP real time and run your analytics on the same.
