In SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), planning is only possible for Acquired Connections with the only exception of SAP BPC Embedded mode. In this blog let us see how you can consume a BPC query in SAP Analytics cloud over a LIVE connection and do a writeback from SAC to SAP BW/4HANA system.
In any Industry which is running On-Prem BPC Environments, SAC as the Client Tool can fulfil straightforward requirements from a planning and forecasting perspective. There are specific use cases where SAC can be used for department-level planning, budgeting and forecasting. The primary benefit to BPC customers is that SAC can be used in conjunction with BPC at any level (Enterprise or Department) to provide a complete EPM and Analytics solution for your organization.
Certain Pre-requisites needs to be maintained as given below.
In BPC web client, first, you need to create Environment (InfoArea equivalent from BW perspective). As a next step create a model (InfoCube equivalent from BW perspective) and select Planning. Save the model. Now all the Queries attached to the Model will be listed as available data sources during planning model creation in SAC.
Enable Planning in BPC Query
In the BPC Query that is available with SAP BW/4HANA system, the below settings should be maintained.
In the Properties -> Planning Tab of the query, you need to maintain value “Input – Ready” for the Input – Ready attribute as shown below to enable planning.
Let us see how to writeback values from SAC in detail.
1. Establishing Live Connection from SAC to SAP BPC system
From the Main Menu of SAC, select Connection and then add a new connection for BPC Live.
Choose the Connection Type and configure the connection with your system details.
2. Creation of Planning Model
From the Mani Menu, select create new model option. (Main Menu -> Create -> Model) and as a next step select “Get data from a data source” option. Under Connect to live data, select Live Data Selection.
Now in the popup, select SAP BPC as the System Type and select the previously created connection. Establish BPC Live Connection by providing the information for BPC Environment, BPC Model and Data Source.
Note: It is advisable to have the necessary information for all the mandatory fields ready before we create a Model.
This step concludes the creation of the Planning Model.
3. Creation of Story
Create a new Story from Main Menu (Main Menu -> Create -> Story). Add a canvas page and select a Table component. Select the previously created model and add the necessary fields.
4. Enable Planning and Write-back Values
Before you can enter values, enable Planning in the Builder panel of the table. If needed you can also enable Mass Data Entry mode (Not Mandatory – In order to help planners to writeback more than one value at once).
Now you will be able to enter new values by simply double-clicking the Table cell.
In our example, the following are the snapshots before planning is enabled.
SAP Analytics Cloud
SAP BPC System
From SAP logon GUI BW/4HANA system.
Once planning is enabled, new values are entered, and the snapshots are shown below.
SAP Analytics Cloud
Since we have enabled Mass Data Entry, we need to Process Data and then Publish data which in turn writes back to the backend query.
Upon processing Data, the cell value has been highlighted as shown below.
Once you process the data the values are temporarily saved within the Story. Now you need to Publish Data as a next step.
SAP BPC System
From Query monitor, once you refresh, you can see the new values that have been written back to the BPC Query.
