SAP Lumira 2.0 brings with it a number of additions to the Technical Components in SAP Lumira Designer. The technical components can be added by right clicking and selecting ‘Create’. Let us explore all these new technical components in this blog.
The below are the new technical components that are available in SAP Lumira Designer:
- Keyboard Shortcuts
- Export Features
- Conditional Formatting Settings
- Value Help Settings
The Keyboard shortcuts is an interesting add-on to dashboards. This technical component can be used to allow users to assign keyboard shortcuts to complete actions on the dashboards. Keyboard shortcuts may be used to toggle between tabs, create bookmarks etc. Usage of keyboard shortcuts is restricted to numbers alphanumeric and keys like SHIFT and ALT. Special characters and function keys are not a part of keyboard shortcuts in this release. Also, the other limitation with keyboard shortcuts are they cannot be used on a mobile device like iPad. Choose keyboard shortcuts from the create menu under technical components.
Click on the button besides Keyboard shortcuts to add shortcut entries. It opens up an ‘Edit Entries’ window where we can add or remove entries. The insert button adds an entry while the key combination and scripts can be edited through the buttons at the side.
Note: These keyboard shortcuts over-write the shortcuts that are available on the browser. For example, the shortcut combination Ctrl + W closes a tab in Internet Explorer. But when a key code is added with the same shortcut combination, the script gets executed instead.
Bookmarks have been added as a technical component in SAP Lumira Designer. This means the legacy bookmarking features have now been reworked. Bookmarking has enabled a new feature called ‘Definition’ to bookmark selective components. Let us consider an example where the user runs a dashboard every day with the same filters. He creates a bookmark with the filters passed. Since the whole dashboard is captured, the user had to manually change the date and run the report again. Now, by using ‘Definition’ the user can bookmark only the selection made on list boxes and run the report.
The definitions can be added to the bookmarks by clicking on the button and by enabling the check-boxes in the window that show up.
Running an application and then loading the bookmarks could be time consuming. To ease this problem, SAP Lumira Designer has come up with the personalization feature. Personalization allows you to select a bookmark of your choice to become the default view when you open an application. This means when you run the application, your bookmark is loaded instantly. Every time personalization is set, the current analysis application state is overwritten by the last personalization saved. Personalization can be changed by referencing different bookmarks.
Export to CSV
The export to csv, xls and xlsx were available under the export script in SAP Design Studio 1.6. This script has been removed in SAP Lumira Designer. They are available as four individual technical components in SAP Lumira Designer.
To export the data sources as csv, we need to add a technical component called ‘Export CSV’ and in the properties, the order of data sources to be exported are to be mentioned. Also, the file name and separator: Comma, Tab, Semicolon or Space is to be entered. You also have the option to choose encoding between UTF-8 and UTF-16.
You can export a data source to csv by using the script in the figure shown below. There are also APIs available to set data sources and filename for the exported csv.
Export to Excel
The Export to Excel technical component is used to export the cross tabs in our application. Under settings, we can mention the cross tabs to be exported and the filename. The metadata information can also be specified through the menu and the metadata location can be selected from the drop-down. When exported, each cross tab gets exported as a different sheet in Excel. The filename, data sources and metadata information can also be set through scripting.
It is also to be noted that this technical component can only export cross tabs and not data sources.
Export to AO
The export to AO technical component exports the data source in the analysis application into Analysis Office. A single data source can be exported at a time using the export to AO technical component. This ensures that the filters being applied on the data sources are also been exported. The exported file is an analysis office file with the extension – ‘.sapao’. This feature new add-on allows us to export the data to Analysis Office and perform further analyses.
Conditional Formatting Settings
Condition formatting settings is a new add-on to the technical component in SAP Lumira Designer. In the earlier versions of SAP Design Studio, we could apply conditional formatting only to charts. But with the latest release, conditional formatting can be defined globally and can be used on components like cross tabs as well.
The conditional formatting technical component has only one API – openRulesDialog.
This opens a popup with options to create new rules and edit the previously created conditional formatting rules.
Value Help Settings
Value Help setting allows the users to specify what should be displayed for a dimension thus helping to customise the list of values for a dimension. This value help setting is used with crosstab, spreadsheets and filter components such as Filter Line, Filter Bar, Dimension Filter and Filter Panel. The Value Help settings will allow users to maintain consistent dimension/member behaviour across different components on the dashboard. Another value addition in Value Help Setting is that it can sort members in customized orders and it is able to set display of members.
