This is part of the SAP Lumira Discovery blog series.
SAP Lumira Discovery has always offered sophisticated geographic charts which shot up the analytical power of data discovery. Analyzing relationships between data and location is a growing factor in the decision-making process where geographic charts play a vital role in visualizing both the physical (Location data) and the abstract (data values) data at a time.
These attributes are especially useful when analyzing location-based services. Let us venture into various types of geo maps in SAP Lumira Discovery.
Lumira Discovery supports four types of layers in geo maps.
- Geo Choropleth chart
- Geo Bullet chart
- Geo Marker
- Geo Pie Chart
Pre-requisites for leveraging Geo Maps
- The dataset you use, must contain geographical data.
- Before creating a geographic chart, you must have an ESRI ArcGIS Online account or else you can select the ‘ESRI on premise’ option as shown in the below screenshot.
- If maps throw an error, update the Network settings to No Proxy
1. Geo-Choropleth Chart
Geographic regions are shaded with a color that represents their measure value. For example, please see the below chart with Net revenue split based on Region.
2. Geo-Bubble Chart
Bubbles are overlaid on each region, with different sizes and colors are displayed based on measures and dimensions. Select Cluster adjacent bubbles to group bubbles together for regions that are close to each other.
For example, please see the below screenshot for Net Revenue based on Region-
A marker is added to each geographic region in the dimension that you add. Adjacent data points can be grouped together by selecting Cluster adjacent markers.
Please see the below screen shot for reference, different US regions are mapped in Geo-marker.
4. Geo-Pie Chart
A pie chart is overlaid on each region, sized according to the measure that you add and divided by the dimension added to the Color shelf. You can display donut charts instead of pie charts by selecting “Show” as donut.
For example, please see the below screenshot in which Net revenue is shown for different regions, which is divided by product:
SAP Lumira Discovery, now allows us to use all the four maps in a single geo map by adding different layers and by using appropriate dimensions and measures. Please see the below screenshot for reference.
