This is part of the SAP Lumira Discovery blog series.
In Microsoft Excel, conditional formatting quickly highlights important information in a spreadsheet. But sometimes, the built-in formatting rules don’t quite go far enough. Adding your own formula to a conditional formatting rule gives it a power boost to help you do things the built-in rules can’t do.
The motive of Conditional Formatting in SAP Lumira Discovery is to highlight a set of values in the charts, based on the rules defined by the user. The option for formatting is similar to the older version of SAP Lumira, but now it can be extended throughout the storyboard and not be limited to a visualization.

In this dialog we can create, edit ore delete rules. One can also alter the order in which these rules apply or influence the charts. This is like the rule editor found in Microsoft products.
Creating a rule

In SAP Lumira Discovery, conditional formatting option is seen in the context menu of the charts.
Below screenshot is taken at Design time-

Whereas, in older versions, it is seen in the menu bar (see below).

Runtime conditional formatting
During runtime hover over the chart and click the highlighted option (see below).

This expands the whole menu where we can see “Conditional formatting” option.

Clicking on this opens the Conditional formatting settings dialog (same as design time). Here we can create, disable or switch rules. Runtime conditional formatting is not possible in older version.
The conditional formatting options are not available in few chart types like Tree map, heat map, geo maps, funnel chart etc.
The rules defined in the design time will be available for all the components i.e rules defined are global can be applied to any charts within the application. Let’s say we define a set of rules in the design time (from context menu of a chart A) and now we will be able to see these defined rules in the Chart B Conditional formatting dialog as well.
In the 2.1 version, the new features include:
1.Enhanced Conditional Formatting Rule Manager dialog which allows us to add new measure and dimension rules in a more intuitive way, including sub rule support.
