This is part of the SAP Lumira Discovery blog series.
The Trend line option in charts, draws a line in the plot area of the chart based on the linear difference in values of each data point. Now we can see on how to create a trend line in chart.
Creating Trend Lines in Chart
Let’s look into creating trend line in a column chart. Right click on the chart and you can find the “Add Trendline” option in the menu. Select the option, a line will be added to the chart based on difference in value between each column in the chart.

As you can see a line is been added in the chart.

We can add additional values for the trend line which enables us to forecast data.
Select ‘Edit Trendline Setting’ option in the right click menu as shown it will open a pop-up window as Trendline Setting.

In the pop-up window we can add the number of periods that needs to be added for the trendline in the chart. As you can see, I have given value 2

The output will be as shown below. The trendline will be plotted as per the value given for the forward periods. The linear aggregated values will be plotted against actual value in the chart which enables us to forecast the value for given period of values in the chart.

SAP Lumira Discovery only supports Linear Regression based trend lines, but can be extended multiple instances on the same chart.
