SAP BW/4HANA cockpit is a Web-based interface used for administration of a BW/4HANA system. In BW/4HANA cockpit, we have Data tiering properties which we are going to see in detail in this blog.

Data Tiering Optimization helps SAP BW/4HANA customers to classify the data in the Datastore object (advanced) as hot, warm or cold depending on the cost and performance requirements for the data. Maintaining the Datastore Object (advanced) such as setting the temperatures, partitions and administration activities can be done in SAP BW/4HANA Cockpit, which is a central entry point for the administration of an SAP BW∕4HANA system. Under Data Management, “Data Tiering Summary” will give you a list of objects which are data-tiering enabled.

“Data Tiering Maintenance” will provide datastore object information along with its distribution of temperatures across partitions and the size of the objects etc.

1. Initially, each partition will be assigned to HOT temperature. You can choose from hot/warm/cold/deleted for a partition. Choose “Check Hot/Warm/Cold Store” to check if selected temperatures are possible. To change the temperature of the partitions, select the partition and choose “Plan Temperature”.

2. Once the temperature is set, click on “execute” which will, in turn, trigger a DTO job to make the temperature change for the selected partitions.

3. Chose temperature “deleted” to delete data from the cold store. The data is not deleted immediately but rather flagged for deletion. Choose “Clean Up” to delete the data physically.

4. Choose “Unschedule” to cancel the scheduling of the DTO jobs.
